Camassia cusickii is starting to pop up in two places in the back yard. Dodacatheon /shooting star coming up (above), pulchellum (magenta) and a white one, maybe Dentatum (photos of both below). Red Floweering Current and Indian Plum leaf buds appearing, those are usually the first leaves to come out.
Having some touch-up lansdscaping done in the lower back yard, south side. A few pictures of the work in progress. The end of the dry overflow stream is revised and ends in a new bog, and the nearby stone steps and path were altered a little. The stone dry stream even crosses the main path, though it is still easy to walk and wheelbarrow over. It isn’t done yet, there are a number of plants ‘standing by’ for that to be completed.
Also opening slightly are Goat’s Beard, Castilleja/ paintbrush, Stachys Cooleyae / Nettle, Slimleaf Onion, and Woodland Penstemon /nothochelone nemerosa, lower images.
Last year’s bulb sprouts are sprouting up in pots again now. It was recommended that they be left over a second winter in the pots, and they are just starting to come up : White and Harvest Brodiaea, and White and Cusick’s Camas. Not sure of the best time to plant them, although they do go dormant in the summer regardless. The Leopard lily and Chocolate lily won’t be up for a few weeks yet. No other new seeds (than flax, blue-eyed mary).
Harvest Brodiaea leaf sprouts are up everywhere, in vast numbers, the result of the liberal seed sowing a couple years ago :
The next few pix are a few more early herbaceous perennials: Woodland penstemon, Paintbrush, “Hedge-Nettle”, Goat’s Beard and Slimleaf Onion:
Camas in bloom below. The background red and green leaved plant is a native Evergreen Huckleberry:
